Recital Acts
The recital is split into 2 acts (Act 1 & Act 2). All younger dancers will be part of our tribute in Act 1. This year’s tribute is ‘Magical Kingdom’.

Recital Order
Please look over the recital order to ensure your child has at least 3 dances between each dance. Please
e-mail us if your child has 3 or less dances between each dance (ashley@abdance.ca) If your child has less then 5 dances then they are considered 'quick change'. All quick change dancers must be signed up on the quick change board. This board will be on the wall the week of pictures.   Quick change dancers must come to the green room, which is located backstage at the theatre at the time of drop off. We will have parents assigned for dancers with quick changes. There may be a few changes made to the order.

Finales
All dancers (not including Mini Dance classes) will perform in the Act 1 finale (approx. 1 hour after the show starts) or the Act 2 finale (approx. 2 hours after the show starts). If dancers are in both Act 1 & 2 then they will perform in the Act 2 finale. Dancers will be lined up with their last class and come on the stage for a final bow.
Act 1 finale (before the intermission)-this will involve all dancers (not including Mini Dance classes) in Act 1
Act 2 finale (at the end of the show) - this will involve all dancers in Act 2

Rehearsal
All students must attend a rehearsal at Markham Theatre on Saturday May 5th . Dancers must come to the rehearsal ready to dance (proper dance clothes & shoes). It is a good idea to arrive at the rehearsal 15min. early. Costumes are not needed for the rehearsal.   Dancers must enter the theatre using the stage door to the left of the theatre. Parents may wait for their children in the rehearsal area. Parents will not be allowed into the theatre to watch.
If your child is in more than one dance it is a good idea to bring some activities (games, colouring books...) and snacks (no peanut products)

Rehearsal Times For May 5th at Markham Theatre will be in the April Newsletter

Programs
If you have a business and would like to advertise, or would like to wish your dancer good luck in our program please see an office administrator. We have over 3000 programs printed so this is a great way to advertise and a wonderful keepsake for your dancer.
Business card size- $50.          Half page - $150.           Full page - $250.

Backstage Area
We try our very best to keep the backstage area as quite and calm as possible. We have a great team of backstage helpers for both the parents and dancers.
In order to make this year’s recital another success it is very important that you read over a few backstage guidelines.
·                Many dancers will be held in the Unionville High School Cafeteria area. Every class will have an area where they can keep their bags. There is a hallway that connects the High School to the Theatre. We have parent volunteers at all doors of the cafeteria.    Dancers are not permitted to run around the cafeteria. We will have a video set up for the dancers to watch while they are waiting.
·                Some classes will be held backstage in the rehearsal hall. Dancers must use the stage door to the left of the theatre when entering
·                No juice or pop backstage or in the cafeteria. Only water!
·                Please make sure you read over the drop off and pick up rules
·                Only Parent Volunteers with a pass will be allowed in the cafeteria, rehearsal hall & backstage area
·                No parents will be allowed at the side of the stage to watch dances

Recital Volunteers
* In order for things to run smoothly we ask all mothers to sign-up for one of the three performances.
All classes will be assigned 2 parent volunteers. (Parents of mini dance classes are welcome to stay with their child)
Parent Volunteer Duties
- Volunteers must come to the theatre 30 min. prior to the drop off time
- you will be given a class list with all the dancers that you will be watching
- it is very important that you go over any quick changes with the dancers that are in multiple dances.
- if you have a child in your group that is in 2 dances you must change them into their next costume and bring them to their next group
- it is very important that you stay with all the dancers until they are picked up
- all volunteers will be given a backstage pass the day of the show

Volunteer Sign Up
We will have boards on the wall in studio A during picture week for parents to sign up to help.
Pick Up & Drop Off (the day of the recital)
* Dancers that are in multiple dances: Please notify your parent volunteer if your child needs to be changed into another costume
Safety is our number one concern so all parents must be patient when dropping off and picking up your child.
Please arrive to the theatre with your child's hair and make-up done. You must sign your child in with their first dance. Please let your child’s volunteer know if your child has any other dances or quick changes. Parents may pick-up younger children after the first act. Parents must wait until all dancers are back with their volunteers before they are picked up. Parents picking up their child from the high school can exit the theatre and walk around to the cafeteria doors. Parents must pick up their performers in the same area they dropped them off.
* When dropping off or picking up please do not leave your car parked and unattended in the no parking zone in front of cafeteria. Cars get ticked very fast.

RECITAL ORDER
Please look over the recital order carefully. If your child dances in more than one dance, please make sure that there are a minimum of 3 dances between each dance. If your child has less then 5 dances between dances they are considered a quick change. The QUICK CHANGE room is located in the Green Room, to the left of the Rehearsal Hall. Please sign your dancer in here at the beginning of each show. Run through what dances they are in with the volunteers. Make sure to label all costume pieces

Finales – Act 1 dancers will be in the act 1 finale and Act 2 dancers will be in the act 2 finale. (Mini dance students will not participate in the finale)

Recital Drop Off (MAY 11TH-13TH)
* Please enter to the left of the theatre through the stage doors
Please sign your child in with the parent volunteers and make sure to give them any additional information they may need, costume changes etc.
Once your child has been signed in you are welcome to leave and return after the 1st Act is complete… approx. 1 hour after the show has begun. We understand that this is a busy weekend, but these rules have been put in place for the safety of all the children.
**All mini dance classes will come straight to the rehearsal hall. One parent per mini dancer will be permitted to stay in the rehearsal hall while their child dances.
·       Please keep in mind that only parent volunteers will be permitted to stay in any of the drop off areas. If it is important with you to stay with your child you must sign up as a parent volunteer, this would mean being responsible for all the dancers in your child’s group. Only parents of mini dancers will be permitted to wait in the rehearsal hall with their child. One parent per child. Parents will not be able to watch from backstage.

We will be handing out a newsletter with more drop off info at the May 5th rehearsal.

Just A Reminder…..
* No babes in arms in the theatre. Everyone needs a ticket.
Dropping off
·       Please allow yourself plenty of time for dropping off
·       Park in the theatre parking lot and use the set of stairs to the left of the theatre doors. Cars will be ticketed if you park in front of the cafeteria

·       You will return to the original drop off area when it is time to pick up
·       We will not let any dancers sign out until all the dancers have returned to the appropriate area with their parent volunteers.
·       When picking up please be sure to sign out with the parent volunteer, do not just take your child and go!
·       Please be patient, remember that these rules have been put in place for the safety of the children
